There are half a dozen golf courses on Phuket, but our favourites are the two at Blue Canyon Country Club.

The world championship Canyon Course (the short 14th hole is pictured above) for those of you who like a rigorous challenge, and the stunning Lakes Course for the days when you want a relaxing round with magnificent views of the lush green hills across the many lakes. 

Driving ranges, practice putting greens and lessons from professionals are available at both courses, as well as an all female crew of well trained caddies, eager and able to celebrates your victories and guide you through the rough. The excellent club house facilities - and delicious lunches - are the icing on the cake.

For the Phuket golfing experience par excellence, the Blue Canyon Country Club has it all. 

For convenience, if you're staying at Banyan Tree Phuket, you may prefer to play the resort's own 18 hole course:  Laguna Phuket Golf Club.  Measuring 6,654 yards from the back tees and 5,464 yards from the forward tees, the course features a wealth of scenic lagoons, coconut groves and undulating fairways, set against the dramatic backdrop of the surrounding mountains and the nearby sea.

However, if you are staying at Six Senses Yao Noi it's a speed boat ride away, so you might find it easier to save this up until the end of your trip, and play it before flying back up to Bangkok or elsewhere.  But there's easy access from both Banyan Tree Phuket and Trisara.  About an hour away on the west coast in Khoa Lak, close to amazing diving in the Similan and Surin Islands, is the excellent Sarojin.

Other suggestions for resorts in Thailand with golf

• On the east coast, further north towards Bangkok, is the fabulous resort spa of Chiva Som in the long established royal beach resort of Hua Hin.  There are several excellent golf courses here.
• Just north of Phuket on the west coast is The Sarojin at Khoa Lak, about an hour's drive to the Blue Canyon.
• Alternatively, head to the jungles of northern Thailand and stay at Four Seasons Chiang Mai, near to two superb golf courses.
