hiking montana

The hiking opportunities in Montana are almost without limit, and any holiday to this stunning corner of the USA would not be complete without one or more days out hiking.

The Ranch at Rock Creek covers over 6,000 acres, so when you're not exploring the spectacular landscape on horseback, head out on foot to get up close and personal with nature and enjoy the truly awesome views.

Depending on your fitness levels and how long you wish to hike for, the concierge service at the ranch can furnish you with all the information (and snacks) that you'll need for a great morning, afternoon or full day out, with options ranging from wildflower-laden meadows to sparkling alpine lakes to the ridge tops of the Sapphire Mountains.

In addition, the famed Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness, known for its high, rugged mountain scenery where mountain goats make their home, is a short drive away. The ranch's naturalist guides will be happy to accompany you on your explorations and share their knowledge of the area’s flora, fauna and geology, or just simply peruse the maps with you and send you on your way.

Stop by The Rod & Gun Club to outfit yourself with backpacks, hiking poles, maps, bear spray, and binoculars.  The ranch can provide you with a gps and radio so you can range as far and wide as you like.

Hiking at Triple Creek Ranch is equally impressive.  You can hike endlessly out the door of your cabin to see wild turkeys, elk, deer, or an occasional moose! Three sides of the ranch are bordered by Bitterroot National Forest offering more options for longer hikes.

Many off-ranch trails are available for all levels of ability.  Hiking to Baker Lake, a secluded alpine lake, Trapper Peak, the highest peak in Western Montana, Boulder Falls, a waterfall only accessible by foot are just a few of the many hikes available. Whether you choose a ranch hike or an outing off property, they will be happy to supply you with trail maps, backpacks, bottled water, picnic lunches, sunscreen, and insect repellant.
