I thought my holiday would be good but I was unprepared for how brilliant I would feel by the end of the week evening standard
"Thank you all so very much for your energy, expertise and inspiration"
Set within the verdant pine and oak tree forest of Mljet National Park, Hotel Odisej is the only hotel on the charming island of Mljet and makes for a brilliant, great value waterside escape.
Nestled on Pomena Bay, far away from Dubrovnik’s cosmopolitan bustle, this 3* hotel sits at the heart of impossibly beautiful hiking and biking paths, world-class boating and diving in warm, shallow bays and history-rich Roman ruins.
Wander free in the direction of Mljet’s two serene saltwater lakes, Malo and Veliko Jezero, which have made it a magnet for nature-lovers and couples looking for a dream island hideaway. There is lots to explore in this lush paradise.
At the hotel, there's a sunbathing terrace beside the clear waters of the Adriatic, a children's sea-water swimming pool, a small fitness room and, for some blissful pampering, spa and beauty treatments are on offer.
Mljet is a magical island (approx. 27 miles long and an average width of 2 miles) where Mother Nature remains utterly unspoilt. Its lush Aleppo pine and holm oak forest coupled with two emerald-green lakes have earned it the title “the green island”. It is, unquestionably, a paradise. Time magazine once named Mljet one of the 10 most beautiful islands in the world, and legendary underwater explorer Jacques Cousteau loved it here. According to legend, Odysseus stayed here for seven years after being shipwrecked. Surrounded by picturesque fauna-filled fields, egg-shaped Odysseus' Cave is worth a visit. As is the 12th century Benedictine island monastery.
Mljet is reached by passenger boat or car ferry from Dubrovnik in approximately two hours. Mljet is the southernmost of a group of south Dalmatian islands.
Why not combine a stay here with a couple of nights in Dubrovnik? We would be glad to organise everything for you.
7 nights from £595 per person sharing a Classic Room on a half board basis, including flights and private airport transfers (car and boat).
The hotel offers Classic, Superior, Deluxe and Family Rooms, plus Executive Suites. All rooms are pretty basic but clean and comfortable and feature a simple en-suite bathroom with shower, and air-conditioning. We recommend staying in a Deluxe Sea View room with private balcony.
It's a 2 hour 35 minute flight from London to Dubrovnik, followed by a 2 hour 45 minute transfer from the airport to the hotel by car and boat.
There's lots to keep everyone active and entertained at Hotel Odisej, including:
The local dive centre is next door to the hotel and offers diving from around £43 per person (including all equipment) per dive. There are over 100 dive sites within easy striking distance, including Roman ruins. 7 day dive courses are available for around £325.
For those only interested in snorkelling, the dive centre will gladly take you to the dive sites with the divers for a small charge.
