I thought my holiday would be good but I was unprepared for how brilliant I would feel by the end of the week evening standard

If you love clean air, mountains and pristine countryside, combined with horse riding, hiking, mountain biking and fly fishing, mixed with good old fashioned Canadian hospitality, you will love our featured destination here:  British Columbia.

In the heart of British Columbia, we are recommending a stay at the luxurious Echo Valley Ranch & Spa.  A unique wilderness experience in British Columbia's Cariboo Country, the ranch has spectacular views across the Fraser River Valley.  Surrounded by forests, canyons and mountain ranges, the ranch offers varied terrains for riding and outdoor adventures that include hiking, mountain biking, fishing and 4 x 4 safari adventure tours.

Echo Valley Ranch is one of Canada's most luxurious guest and resort ranches, offering 20 rooms and suites housed in two separate lodges and a small selection of private log cabins.   The ranch is the perfect choice for those looking for a wilderness adventure that combines horseback riding and a range of other outdoor activities whilst not compromising on comfort and luxury.

International guests will most probably fly in to Vancouver, from where it is 435 km/270 miles to Echo Valley.  A private air charter to Echo Valley airport is a 50 minute flight from Vancouver.  However, if you choose to drive, you'll enjoy breath taking scenery the whole way there!

And if you want to spend a night or two in the gorgeous waterside city of Vancouver on you're way there or back, please let us know and we'll organise everything for you.

Weather and seasons

Canada has four distinct seasons, however the climate varies vastly over this huge country.

In winter, the days are short and can be cold with -20°C not uncommon in certain parts. In summer, the days are long and are usually warm and the mercury can hit 30°C.

Winters are coldest in the North and in areas far from large bodies of water. Temperatures in these areas can range from minus 10° to 5° Celsius in the winter and 10°C to 30°C in the summer.

The West coast of British Columbia, including Vancouver, has a moderate climate year round and thus the seasons are less distinct from one another. Overall, the West coast has Summers that aren't as warm nor winters that are as bitterly cold as the East coast.

Eastern Canada, including Toronto and Montreal, has a short, fierce winter, below zero temperatures most of the time, and -20°C not uncommon. At least one or two snowfalls of eight inches or more will likely hit in January and February.
