costa rica

costa rica

Costa Rica straddles the heart of Central America and is flanked by both the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean.  This small, breathtakingly beautiful country is a laid-back and peaceful democratic republic.

Costa Rica is considered to be the jewel of Central America and is at the forefront of eco and adventure tourism. All in all, its sheer diversity makes this a fabulous destination for families and couples alike.

Separating the lowlands facing the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean is a range of active and dormant volcanoes surrounded by mountain cloud forest, lowland tropical jungle and savannah grasslands. Plantations of its world famous coffee blanket the sunny slopes, while trees laden with orchids are home to quetzals, sloths and hummingbirds.  Costa Rica is a treasure trove for the nature-lover!

On the Pacific coast, the jungle creeps down to the shoreline, enlivened by the chattering of monkeys and parrots; the Caribbean shore hosts volcanic beaches and palm-sheltered coves lapped by a turquoise sea.

Thanks to a natural abundance of flora and fauna, and stunning scenery of cloud forests, rivers, volcanoes and wild beaches, you can enjoy adventure, wildlife viewing and relaxation.

Weather & Seasons

Despite its small size, Costa Rica has a number of distinct microclimates. The Caribbean coast is humid all year round with the driest months being September and October; wildlife lovers, however, might prefer to visit this region from July to August to watch nesting turtles. The rest of the country experiences a dry season from December to April, when there is plenty of sun and temperatures are high, and a rainy season from May to November. However, this is not a hard-and-fast rule for all regions: for example, the rainy season starts a month earlier in the south Pacific, while the northern areas, including the Guanacaste coast, are not as affected by the seasons and are generally much drier. The highlands and cloud forests have warm temperatures during the day but the high altitude means evenings are much cooler.
