cuba caribbean

Cuba is a passionate country of iconic revolutionaries, Latin dance, vivacious cities, murals and 1950's automobiles. The island’s past is imprinted on its present; the faded glory and the decadent sit side by side.

Against the formidable backdrop of crumbling facades and bright skies, the streets of Havana are the place to watch Cuban life unfold whilst sipping a mojito. Walk down a quiet side street to find a group of musicians practising and children dancing on the cobbles. Explore the grand colonial architecture in the town squares, and embrace your inner photographer snapping shots of the pastel-coloured cars, tattered flags and interesting characters you meet along the way.  Stay at Hotel Saratoga or Iberostar Parque Central

On the south coast, Trinidad is a UNESCO World Heritage site, filled with charming plazas, Spanish churches and colourful buildings. Here you'll see people riding horses down the cobbled streets, and perhaps spend your evenings learning to salsa dance.  Stay at Grand Hotel Trinidad

The Vinales Valley with mountainous scenery, beautiful waterfalls and verdant tobacco fields provides a vibrant contrast to Havana.  Stay at Los Jazmines Vinales

For beautiful beaches and an adult-only hotel of the highest 'Cuban' quality, we recommend Melia Buenavista on a peaceful little island (Cayo Santa Maria) just off the north coast.

Cuba's coastline is home to some beautiful beaches, but the level of accommodation is not comparable to other parts of the Caribbean and in our experience it's best to combine a stay in Cuba with a beautiful beach in Mexico (see Mayan Riviera) where you'll find a better choice of hotels and much higher standards of service.

Weather and seasons

The best time to visit Cuba is from December to May as this is typically the driest time of year. From June to November Cuba can be hot, humid and wet and during this season there is a risk of hurricanes as Cuba is located in the Caribbean. During the winter months of December and January daytime temperatures are typically around the mid 20’s on average although can drop below whilst in the summer months of July and August temperatures can get unpleasantly hot.
