The ancient lands of Egypt offer a myriad of destinations and cultural experiences for travellers.  For now, we are simply offering the two best beach resorts.

Four Seasons Sharm el Sheikh is open all year, but summer (June to August) can get very hot, with temperatures soaring into the 40s. However, this is also low season, when prices drop. Best to avoid Ramadan, when some businesses will close for the whole month. Islamic festivals Eid al-Adha and Ras as-Sana are extremely busy as Egyptians are all on holiday. The dates for these holidays change every year, so check before planning your trip. March to April and October to November are great times to visit.

It's a 5 hour direct flight to Sharm El Sheikh International Airport from London and it's just a 10 minute drive from the airport to The Four Seasons Resort.

Kempinski Soma Bay is a fabulous year round family resort on the west coast of the Red Sea (fly to Hurghada) that offers a wealth of land and water sports for all ages to enjoy, and a very good kid's club.  Better yet, it's extremely good value.  And definitely the cheaper of the two resorts we recommend in the region.  And, if anyone in the family is a golfer, the Gary Player designed championship course nearby receives regular plaudits from the golfing press.

It's a 5.5 hour flight from London to Hurghada, followed by a 45 minute private transfer to the resort.

British passport holders travelling to Egypt normally require a visa.

British nationals travelling to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba resorts for up to 15 days receive a free entry permission stamp upon arrival. If you intend to travel out of the mentioned areas or stay longer than 15 days, you must obtain a visa.

Visas can be obtained from an Egyptian Consulate outside Egypt, or on arrival by payment in Sterling, US Dollars or Euros, for stays of up to a month.
