koh kood

koh kood thailand

Two hundred miles south east of Bangkok, near the Cambodian border, lies the small island of Koh Kood, home to rainforest, coconut and rubber plantations, sleepy fishing villages, and fewer than 2,000 people.  And the magnificent Soneva Kiri resort.

Remote but accessible aptly describes the Thai island of Kood, on which Soneva Kiri (pictured above) is set amidst the lush tropical rainforest, off the south-east coast of the Gulf of Siam.  This is the perfect destination for a relaxing and luxurious beach holiday, a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The island is one of Thailand's quietest and most beautiful.  It hasn't really been discovered yet and therefore offers the lucky few an island paradise to savour.

International guests are personally met on arrival at Bangkok’s airport and transferred to the resort’s own airplane for the one-hour flight to the Soneva Kiri airfield. From the air, the beauty of untouched Thailand and Koh Kood, with its white sandy beaches is immediately evident.

Other Thai islands with recommended resorts

  • Koh Samui - on the other side of the Gulf of Thailand
  • Yao Noi - also on the west side of the Gulf, located half way between Phuket and Krabi

The weather is fine all year round, with the exception of some rain showers during summer months (March – April) but the summer period is still a wonderful time to visit.  It's known as the 'green time' as the rain forest responds to the showers.

Best time to visit is from November to April.  Average temperature is around 25c to 30c, and the sea water temperatures are very similar.

Guests travelling to Soneva Kiri on Koh Kood are met at Bangkok International Airport for transfer by private plane to the island.  On landing, there's a short 2km journey by speed boat to the resort.
