stockholm sweden

Stockholm, Sweden's capital, is spread out over 14 islands in Lake Mälaren and looks out to the Baltic Sea to the east.

Stockholm is a gorgeous city steeped in history, with cobblestone streets, ships and boats galore, gothic churches, museums, elaborate palaces and designer boutiques - all criss crossed with water.  The best ways of getting around are on foot or bicycle and ferry.  Why not hook up with one of our bicycle guides for a tour?

Around this colourful and vibrant city, you will find the Stockholm archipelago containing some 24,000 islands and islets. Indeed, one of our featured activities during your stay here is kayaking - either around the city or out in the islands, camping over night in the archipelago.  If you wish to go further afield, how about a day or more sailing on a skippered yacht?

We are recommending just a handful of places to stay in Stockholm, all on the water front.  Something for all tastes and budgets.

  • Grand Hotel - grand, classic and elegant with an excellent spa
  • The Lydmar - stylish, funky boutique hotel with magnificent harbour views
  • Hotel Skeppsholmen - sleek and comfortable with water front gardens, fitness studio and tennis court
  • Hotel J - just a 15 minute ferry ride out of town; practical and very cost effective option

Please call one of our travel specialists on 020 8968 0501 for advice and guidance or, if you prefer, please send us an email outlining your requirements.

Weather and seasons

Stockholm is a year round destination but is at its best in spring, summer and December. From May to September temperatures are warm, early twenties but in the height of summer can reach up to 30 degrees and the sun doesn't set until around 10:30pm, rising at around 3:00am so you can really pack a lot in! During the winter temperatures do get cold but it is a great place to go for a pre-Christmas getaway.
