Located in the heart of cowboy country, in British Columbia, the horse riding landscape surrounding Echo Valley is second to none.

Combined with the warmth of western hospitality, wrangler expertise, and range of horses, the horseback riding at Echo Valley Ranch offers some of the most enriching Canadian horseback riding experiences available.

Horses:  Echo Valley Ranch & Spa has more than 30 horses; many are Tennessee Walkers, which are famous for their smooth gait and gentle nature. They are excellent horses for riders of all ages and of all ability levels, especially novices.

Explore:  The landscape surrounding Echo Valley is the Cariboo region of the province where cowboys, cattle, and scenic horseback riding trails are part of the area's history and culture.  The guided rides range from one to seven hours and will take you through forests of desert pines, stands of whispering aspens, across pasturelands, mountains, meadows, and to the edge of a glacial canyon.

All abilities:  If this is your first horseback riding holiday, rest assured that Echo Valley's experienced wranglers will guide and assist you - always with your safety as a priority. That's why they match you with a horse whose temperament will best suit your ability and comfort level. And that's why everyone spends some time simply getting to know their horse.  Novice horse riders can learn the basics in the ranch's full-size, outdoor riding arena before heading out for a two-hour trail ride to the Look Out.

Advanced riders can take a packed lunch and ride the range all day.  What ever you choose, Echo Valley's wranglers will take you on trails that epitomize the myths and folklore of the Wild West.

Lessons:  Echo Valley's 200ft x 100ft outdoor riding arena is ideal for learning how to ride, and practice riding techniques. This is where the instructors introduce safety oriented riding lessons for beginners; Western style.  If you're really keen, they'll even show you how to groom, saddle up and care for your horse.  Seasoned riders may want to try their hand at barrel racing. (One to two hour lessons are recommended).

Guided rides:  There are two hour (approx.) guided rides scheduled every morning and afternoon. These are perfect to explore the many different trails around the ranch, across varied terrain including open country and beneath forested canopies.
Choose to ride on both occasions, or spend half a day in the saddle and the other half relaxing in the spa or enjoying another activity, such as fly fishing or mountain biking.

Guided all day rides:  These all day guided ride-the-range excursions are scheduled twice a week and are the next best thing to being a cowboy!   They will pack snacks and a picnic lunch in your saddle bag and take you through a bounty of vistas from forested trails to open country overlooking a spectacular canyon. You may even come across real cowboys herding cattle over a distant hill.
