Itinerary

Day 1
Depart London Heathrow for your overnight flight to South Africa.

Day 2-4
Arrive at Richards Bay and make your way to Phinda, a private game reserve located close to the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park.  The reserve is a magnificent mix of woodland, grassland and wetland punctuated with mountains, rivers and marshes.  All the big five roam the reserve as well as cheetah and over 400 bird species. It is also extremely close to the east coast and the white beaches that abound in South Africa.  Unusually this also gives you ample opportunity to scuba dive if you wish whilst at Phinda.

Phinda offers two game drives per day at the crack of dawn and sunset.  You can enjoy the African bush on foot or in a canoe to experience the vibrant marine life at water-level.  All accommodation is full board and the standard of food is consistently excellent.

Day 5
This is the start of your golfing experience.  Drive for less than 2 hours and arrive at Princes Grant just outside the town of Stanger.  This is a great golf course which is rated in the top 25 in South Africa.  The scenery is spectacular with views of the Indian Ocean.  Guarding the greens and lining the fairways there are many bunkers, both large and small, to keep you on your toes.  Play in the early afternoon and on completion of your round drive the short distance to the Oyster Box at Umlanga which will be your home for the next 7 nights.

Perfectly situated on the ocean’s edge, a brief 5 minutes walk from the centre of Umhlanga, the Oyster Box Hotel is ideally located for quick and easy access to many of the best golf courses on the coast of Kwa Zulu Natal.  The hotel has a feeling of classical charm and elegance combined with a sprinkle of colonial charm and impeccable service. Relax by the beautiful pool or indulge in some treatment in the beautifully designed Oyster Box Spa.

Day 6
After 3 nights on safari at Phinda and one round of golf under your belt it’s time for your first day off to enjoy your new surroundings at the Oyster Box.  Take the opportunity to relax by the pool.

Day 7
Make the short drive to the Durban Country Club, one of the oldest golf courses in South Africa (opened 1922) and has played host to more South African Opens than any other course in the country.

Day 8
Zimbali Golf Course offers irresistible ocean and forest views, exceptional water and wetland features and an inspiring natural setting.  Zimbali has developed the reputation of a memorable course with charisma and challenge.

Day 9
The Wild Coast Sun Country Club is to be found at the very foot of the east coast of KwaZulu Natal.  It’s an early start from the hotel as you have a good 2 hour journey in front of you.  A late morning round with lunch at the halfway hut followed by the drive back mid afternoon.  A long day but well worth the effort.

Day 10
A well earned rest day.

Day 11
A second crack at the Durban country Club and a chance to beat your score on your first round.

Day 12
It’s time to pack your bags and drive the short distance to Durban International airport. Return your hire car and check in for your flight to Johannesburg and onward overnight to London.

Day 13
Arrive back at Heathrow in the early morning.
