Every month, somewhere in the world is at its best for a holiday. In January, if you are looking for heat, that tends to be long haul. We recommend destinations such as Cape Town or the Caribbean plus, of course, Thailand or somewhere like Kerala in southern India or for shorter travel time, then the Middle East. If you don’t want to fly long haul for sunshine, the best options within 4 hours flying time of London are places like Marrakech, Tenerife, Andalusia and Madiera. Whilst it will not be hot, it should still be T-shirt weather during the day. On the other hand, it may be that skiing is what you’re most interested in. We would recommend the Italian Dolomites or numerous other options in the Swiss or French Alps. Further afield, head to Jackson Hole in Wyoming for a stay at Amangani, recently voted as No. 1 Ski Hotel in North America by readers of Condé Nast Traveler.
