al maha desert resort

7 nights full board from £4,400 al maha desert resort dubai

Set in 225 square kilometres of pristine desert landscape, yet only an hour from the city of Dubai, the award winning Al Maha desert resort and spa is a wonderful (and very luxurious) wilderness escape.

Resembling a Bedouin encampment, this secluded hideaway resort offers personal and seductive experiences with great hospitality, privacy and absolute comfort adding to the romance of the desert.  The resort is located within a private wildlife sanctuary, where Arabian Oryx and five species of delicate desert gazelles wander freely across the plains and dunes - you can even expect them to visit you at your tent.

The luxurious accommodation available at Al Maha include Bedouin suites, Royal suites, Emirates and Presidential suites - all with beautiful quality furnishings and their own private pool and relaxation deck.  You can choose to dine in your suite or head in to the restaurant for an eastern or western culinary experience - or even enjoy a romantic private dining experience for two with a private table in the dunes.

There's lots to experience at the resort and in the surrounding desert, including safaris, nature walks, falconry, horse riding and camel trekking.  All activities at the resort take place under the direction and supervision of an Al Maha Field Guide, who is an experienced and dedicated conservationist and has extensive knowledge of the environment, flora and fauna of the region.  You can select up to two different complimentary activities per night-stay as part of your package.

And, after a busy day, you can return to the resort and give both mind and body a rejuvenating and relaxing treat in the spa.  There are both single and double treatment rooms.

Highs

  • The genuinely luxurious feeling of the individual private tents - the expansive bathrooms, gorgeous private pools, high quality furnishings .. even a pillow menu
  • Spoiling one off opportunities such as dining a deux in the desert (you're given a hand held radio to contact the resort when you want picking up!)
  • The closeness to wildlife - no fences, no cages - just pretty gazelles lapping at your chlorine-free swimming pool
  • The all-inclusive breakfast, lunch, dinner pricing means no surprises

Lows

  • It would be a dream family holiday, but the configuration of tents mean families can't all sleep together (unless in the Royal suite)
  • Not recommended for under 10s for safety reasons - roaming wildlife, private plunge pools..
