astoria7 hotel

room per night from £60 astoria7 hotel basque country

The cinema-themed Astoria7 is a motion picture of a boutique hotel in San Sebastián, where every room is dedicated to a movie legend.  Great value friendly hotel that's just 15 minutes from the beach and the Old Quarter.

As you sweep through the entrance doors, you'll be greeted by a model of Alfred Hitchcock sitting on a chair reading a magazine - just one of the numerous references to Hollywood greats.  Why?  Because San Sebastian is home to an annual film festival in September.  Go to bed with Glenn Close, Dennis Hopper or Julie Christie.  The Alfred Hitchcock suite on the top floor has its own ceiling-stowed projector and screen, as well as a separate lounge, large balcony and a cinema library. For solo travellers, the single rooms have almost-double beds and their own balcony.

Interiors are sleek and bright, with retro furniture and pistachio-, cloud- or coffee-coloured walls. Beyond the red-carpeted lobby, there’s a 70s-style lounge where even the library is movie-themed.  Like almost every hotel in San Sebastian, Astoria7 only offers (a very good) breakfast.  With so many sensational pintxos bars and outstandig restaurants around town, why bother to try and compete?

Switch lazy days in your suite for lazing on La Concha beach, a 15 minute walk from the hotel. Or neighbouring Zurriola beach if you want to surf.  Alternatively, climb up Mount Igueldo for bay-sweeping views, day or night (you can always cheat and take the cable car). Explore the coastline peppered with fishing villages in the province of Guipuzcoa – stop off at Zumaia, Getaria and Hondarribia.  Just outside Getaria, there's the fabulous and super-stylish boutique Hotel Iturregi in the hills.

Astoria7 has a good fitness studio tucked away on the top floor.
