Nearby

Tetouan:  Located 35km away (about 20 minutes drive), Tetouan is a quaint town with an illustrious history. Reflecting Spanish influence, Tetouan is a neat enclave of sparkling avenues fringed by outrageously pink, purple and vermillion bougainvillea flowers that cascade over the snowy walls of European style villas while fountains cool the sunny plazas.

The Medina of Tetouan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is considered to be a typical example of Andulasian influence.

The Jewish Quarter, nicknamed as ‘Little Jerusalem’ which sports wrought iron balconies and shuttered windows onto the streets in fascinating contrast to the more covert architecture of the Arabic medina.  It is one of the largest Jewish quarters in Morocco and also shows signs of the European influence.

Chefchaouen:  Tucked away in the Rif mountains (about 50 minutes drive away), Chefchaouen is widely regarded as one of the prettiest towns in Morocco. It is particularly unique for the fact that each building is painted blue. Painted in hues from sea to sky blue they are made even more dazzling with the addition of fiery red roof tiles.  Referred to locally as Chaouen, the town has long been a melting pot of cultures, welcoming Berbers, Muslims and Jews exiled from Granada, and later European, British and American explorers.

The souks in the town provide a rainbow of shopping joy, piled high with buttery soft leather babouche (flat slippers), vibrant hand woven carpets and pretty glazed pottery.
