coworth park

spa sleepover from £375 coworth park england

Coworth Park, conveniently close to both London and Heathrow, is a magnificent Georgian hotel that sits in its own 240 acre estate in leafy Berkshire.  With exceptional equestrian facilities and a crisp, contemporary spa.

The Georgian charm of the original Coworth Park’s manor house estate has recently been enhanced with an eccentric and eclectic decorative flair.  The rooms and suites in the Mansion House are very comfortable and spacious and have extensive views through large windows out over gardens and parkland.  We love the free standing copper baths and recommend picking the parkland side of the property for the best views.

The renovated stables, about 100 yards from the main building, are indicative of the estate's long equestrian and polo heritage and now have a selection of rooms and suites with contemporary furnishings and simple, pastoral colour schemes.

For a family escape to the country, you should consider the Dower House, a charming, private three-bedroom house built in 1775 with its own dining room, sitting room, kitchen, snug and a secluded garden with its own stream running through it that's home to the park’s resident family of swans.

The Barn restaurant, located within the stable complex, has a light and airy upstairs bar and a cosy downstairs informal restaurant serving an interesting mix of dishes.  The rather more grand and formal restaurant in the Manor House, with expansive views of the park, features a Best of British menu promoting top quality small artisan producers from around the country.  For lighter, healthy meals and snacks, head to the Spa's Spatisserie .

The spa, a couple of minutes walk away, part submerged in its own sculptured landscape (pictured above) looks like something out of a Bond movie.  Inside, it's all clean whites and crisp creams, and exudes an air of calm efficiency.  The clever design allows natural light to flood in and you can easily spend the day in this warm sanctuary indulging yourself in a range of 100% organic treatments by Dr. Alkaitis.   The 18m swimming pool opens out on to a gorgeous sun deck - the perfect place to recline when the Bristish weather allows it.  If not, you can always hit the spa's well equipped gym for a workout.

For horse lovers, the hotel's outstanding equestrian facilities offer something for everyone, including beginners, and offers the chance to explore the 240 acre estate on horse back.  If you would rather sit back and enjoy the spectacle of riders in action, then the regular polo matches on one of the estate's two polo pitches, is a delightful way of spending a lazy afternoon.

Accommodation

Coworth Park offers a selection of rooms and suites in both the main Manor House (30) and the elegantly renovated stable block (40).  In addition, there's the lovely 3 bedroom Dower House - perfect for a family escape to Berkshire.

The Dower House is the jewel in Coworth Park’s crown. This picturesque, private three-bedroom house built in 1775 has its own dining room, drawing room, kitchen, snug and a secluded garden with its own stream running through it that is home to Coworth Park’s family of swans. The interior is decorated by Fox Linton Associates much as a private client might envisage their own English country home.

Spa

Built over two floors, the upper floor has 8 treatment rooms (including two doubles), a manicure/pedicure salon, relaxation room and The Spatisserie, serving continental breakfast, light meals, afternoon tea, wine and champagne.  On the lower level, there is 18m heated indoor swimming pool with underwater music, an aromatic steam room, and plenty of comfy loungers to relax both inside and out - the sun terrace is wonderful if the weather is gorgeous.

Gym

The gym, housed in the spa building, has plenty of natural light and tree top views. The TechnoGym cardio vascular equipment has integrated televisions and includes three treadmills, one upright and one recumbent cycle, one cross trainer and free weights up to 24kg.

Equestrian facilities

Guests at Coworth Park can experience the thrill of horse riding, whatever their level or ambition in the saddle.  With beautifully bred, well trained and immaculately presented horses available for guests to ride across the 240 acre private estate, there is no end of opportunity to explore the beautiful Berkshire countryside on horseback.  For those wishing to improve their riding ability further, there's one-to-one or group lessons in basic riding, dressage and jumping on your own horses or on Coworth's selection of well trained schoolmaster horses and ponies.

For lessons on-site, Coworth has a teaching paddock, 20 x 60 m international dressage arena and an intermediate level show jumping course which can be altered to accommodate all levels of ability and confidence.

Coworth Park, the only UK hotel to feature its own polo fields, has a close affiliation with polo with the season running from April to September annually.  Coworth Park's facilities include stabling for 30 horses together with self-contained accommodation for grooms and a full programme of polo tournaments.

Guests staying at Coworth Park are able to make full use of the polo facilities and attend open polo fixtures.
