weekends from £560 reads hotel majorca

A delightful and spacious family-run country house hotel in the centre of Majorca with easy access to the mountains for the keen cyclists and a large spa and pool for those less keen on the action

You feel immediately at home and looked after as soon as you step into Reads. The Read family run the hotel impressively and offer a warm welcome as does the family’s dachshund, affectionately named ‘Mr Brown’. The hotel is full of character, with murals of Greek Gods covering the restaurant walls and antiques to be found in every corner.

The 23 bedrooms are all generously sized, each with their own colours and unique features and the over proportionate bathrooms are a welcome feature. The bedrooms are set around a delightful large garden, with an expansive swimming pool.

The food in both Reads' restaurants (Bacchus and Blues) is excellent. Dinner on a balmy evening on the terrace by the pool is a very special experience.

The family has really made wellness and fitness a focus of the hotel and is proud of the large spa and indoor pool, which secures the hotel as a year-round destination. Simone, the daughter, runs the spa and fitness aspects, while Malcom her husband doubles as restaurant manager and an impressively strong biking guide, who regularly takes guests out riding. On that note, the hotel is perfectly situated for its proximity to the mountains, has a collection of excellent GIANT mountain and road bikes for guests, and  regularly hosts international elite biking groups for training breaks.

Minimum age of guests at Reads is 12 years old.

See the itineraries tab above for our suggestions for a 4 night road biking trip based at Reads.

Highs

  • The space and peace of the place. You can properly unwind, especially without any risk of noise from children
  • Being centrally located, you’re within fairly easy access of all corners of Mallorca so it’s a great position from which to explore the whole island
  • The food is impressive and generous with several healthy options. The home-made gazpacho is a must-try.

Lows

  • You’ll need a car – there is very little in the closest town, so any dinners out will require a drive
  • The tennis court could do with some attention and floodlights, so it’s not for the expert player, though more than adequate for a fun knock-up
  • There is a strict no children policy at Reads (under 12 years), so it’s not a family holiday option (perhaps this is more of a plus for some!)

Healthy Traveller Tip

Majorca is fantastic for road biking, and Read’s is the place to try it from, so discuss biking options with Malcom – he’ll be able to guide you on any route from easy flat through to hard core mountainous.  Alternatively, we'll set up everything for you in advance.
