Tangala House

This is the perfect place for a family, as it’s a gentle introduction to the wildlife of Zambia. Tangala sleeps up to 8 and has a children’s playroom and a spacious, high ceiling kitchen-dining room with views to die for as the African sun sets across the Zambezi River.  As befits a family home, the rooms are enclosed, with large glass fitted windows to keep out the insects.

Remarkably, over 145 species of birds have been spotted from the kitchen window and elephant herds can often be seen drinking on the opposite bank.  And you will certainly see and hear lots of hippo.

The living room has a large sofa and two armchairs and leads onto a ‘snuggery’ with satellite TV, video, Hi Fi and Jetmaster fireplace. Most of the rooms have very high thatch ceilings and the passages have large 3-4m high ‘Moroccan’ arches, with 1m thick walls.

We particularly love the circular, open-sided thatched rondavel with its enormous comfy sofa and views across the garden to the river.  The perfect place for ‘sundowner’ at the end of the day.

The swimming pool is 11m x 5m, with an extra shallow area for children and bench seating. In front of the house is a grass lawn and Tangala features 250m of private river frontage, with no properties on either side. The veranda easily seats ten, and is open thatch with steps onto the lawn, towards the swimming pool and the terrace, which has an eight seat railway sleeper picnic table.
