vil uyana

room per night from £280 vil uyana cultural triangle

Vil Uyana is a member of the Leading Small Hotels of the World and offers spacious luxury dwellings, built over a wetlands area just a few kilometres from Sigiriya.

Vil Uyana is spread out over a large area and guests use buggies or bikes to get around. In your room you have ultimate privacy but the hotel also caters for people who are keen to join in with local communal activities too.

If enjoying the natural environment from the comfort of your private terrace or balcony isn't enough, you can get even closer to nature by taking an early morning stroll with one of the excellent resident naturalists who will bring the forest to life.

The main restaurant is very welcoming and the staff are all on hand to help at any time of the day.  Vil Uyana also has a variety of dining locations including Sulang, Apsara, Graffiti, the Mandhiya Library, in-room dining or even paddy field dining. Sulang features casual dining while Apsara is the property’s fine dining restaurant. Mandhiya Library is the perfect place to relax with your favourite drink and enjoy the perfect surroundings.

The hotel will be happy to arrange cultural tours and activities in the local area and beyond. You can climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress located 5 km away, visit Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura (Sri Lanka’s cultural cities), visit the village temple and learn about Buddhism from the head monk of the temple, visit the craft village and learn about traditional Sri Lankan crafts. You could also enjoy a picturesque cycling or walking trail and the Loris watching tour to catch a glimpse of these adorable little creatures is a must.

The hotel also offers Ayurvedic spa treatments, yoga and meditation. If you're after some more intensive exercise than cycling or wandering around the nearby cultural landmarks, you can always head to the fitness studio for a work out.

The average temperature here is 29C during the day and 26C at night. There are no distinct seasons but the North-East Monsoon brings rain to the dry zone from December to March so expect some wet weather at the hotel during that period.

Vil Uyana is a wonderful destination as part of a wider Sri Lankan itinerary.  Find out more about the Cultural Triangle

Children are welcome to come and stay at Vil Uyana but there are no specific facilities available for them...

As with most hotels and resorts in Sri Lanka, this is a place for families to come and stay and enjoy doing things together.  At Vil Uyana, children will love the many cultural activities in the local area and beyond.  Particularly the cycling, visits to the craft village, and the Loris watching tour to catch a glimpse of the cute grey animal.

The Loris, with its large bulging eyes and tiny limbs, is a nocturnal primate found in India, Sri Lanka and South East Asia. Hidden in the scrub forests, this mystical creature moves slowly through the trees after dusk to feed on insects and berries. At Vil Uyana the conservation of the resident Loris is very important.

For animal viewing on a completely different scale, elephant watching safaris into the Minneriya National Park can easily be arranged.  Situated in the Dry Zone of Sri Lanka, the centre piece of the park is the Minneriya Tank which is surrounded by varied habitats of wetlands, grasslands and scrub jungle - and the elephants congregate here to drink.  Other inhabitants of the park include the Purple Faced Langur and Toque Macaque, buffaloes, spotted deer, jackals, crocodiles and water monitors, and if lucky one might see a leopard or a sloth bear. Over 160 species of birds have made their home in the sanctuary making it a bird watcher’s paradise.
