I thought my holiday would be good but I was unprepared for how brilliant I would feel by the end of the week evening standard
"Thank you all so very much for your energy, expertise and inspiration"
From your base at the wonderful Shangri La Rasa Ria there's lots of great walks and hiking trails - including tree top canopy walkways - to explore, but if you're after a serious hike, you need to head up the spectacular Mount Kinabalu.
Mount Kinabalu, pictured above, should only be attempted by those that consider themselves to be reasonably fit. If that's you, it's a truly memorable and enjoyable experience!
We can tailor-make this adventure just for you, and would recommend a 3 day / 2 night programme, as follows:
Day 1 Kinabalu Park Tour (with lunch and dinner included): Traverse along Sabah's Crocker Range to Kinabalu Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, Mt. Kinabalu, the highest mountain in Malaysia towers majestically at 4, 095 m (13431 feet). Enjoy the cool air as you trek around the foothills to learn about the different unique plants of Borneo such as the carnivorous Nepenthes, rhododendrons and orchids. Stay overnight at the rather basic Park Headquaters - it's all part of the experience!
Day 2 Ascend to the Mountain Hut (with breakfast, lunch and dinner included): Transfer to Timpohon Gate, the start of the trek to the Mt. Hut. Enroute, rest at any of the 6 shelters (there are water tanks and basic toilets next to the shelter). Overnight at the Mt. Huts (Basic, hostel type accommodation with communal bathrooms; non-heated)
Day 3 Final ascent to the summit (after breakfast): At 3 am, depart from the Mt. Hut for the final ascent to the peak of Mt. Kinabalu and enjoy a spectacular view of the sunrise and on a clear day, capture a glimpse of the Kota Kinabalu City and South China Sea. It's well worth the early start! Descend to Timpohon Gate before transfer to Kota Kinabalu.
This adventurous excursion costs from £200 per person.
It's about 45 minutes from Kota Kinabalu to Shangri La Rasa Ria
