I thought my holiday would be good but I was unprepared for how brilliant I would feel by the end of the week evening standard
"Thank you all so very much for your energy, expertise and inspiration"
This relaxed spa and wellness resort in the Tuscan hills is a lovely place to reclaim your mojo, with brilliant spa facilities, a genuine thermal water source and delicious Italian food.
Inside it’s all soothing light wood and fresh clean spaces. There are restorative views of the Tuscan hills, cypress trees and the pretty hilltop village of Castigliano d’Orcia from rooms and terraces, and bedrooms are simple, well-designed affairs, with simple furniture and walls in uplifting spring colours, many split level and each with a balcony or terrace.
You can eat as little or as much as you like – food intolerance, nutrition and body composition check-ups are available, special diets can be catered for, including weight-loss, wheat and dairy-free, or just indulge in the sumptuous Italian menu – the main courtyard restaurant has a wonderful glass ceiling which opens up on warmer nights to reveal the stars in the night sky of Tuscany
In the grounds you’ll find the main thermal water pool with massage jets and waterfalls, part of which is undercover for cooler days. There’s a large swimming pool surrounded by garden areas and sun loungers, and a highly impressive selection of saunas and steam rooms, including an Etruscan sauna in which you inhale a refreshing salty steam to help clear out your nose and lungs; a herbal steam room and an olive wood sauna set on a small lake.
The spa has 17 treatment rooms, including a quieter corridor of rooms for holistic treatments. There are two levels of relaxation beds looking over a small lake, and a small watsu pool. Pamper junkies and those looking for longer-lasting holistic therapies will love the vast treatment list. There’s an onsite doctor who can tailor a health programme to suit your needs, and the daily programme of activities includes yoga and pilates, hydro biking, various stretch classes, mountain biking and daily guided walks.
